BANKS'S CUP |

Willo Captains Cup Team

Brian Williams’
stepped in to save the Hilly Houses’ Banks Cup team by agreeing
to captain the side for it’s quarter-final in the storms of
Kidderminster and the expected drubbing in the semi finals
against the White Horse, though as expected, Willos’ captaincy
was nothing if not controversial.
“He’s a harsh selector” said Bomber
“He’s an inspiration” said Ricoh
“He’s a £$”%£%” said Dave Lomas |

After a year long
absence, the trophy that has been dominated by the club since
it’s inauguration in 1996, has returned to it’s spiritual home.
The first leg of the final was played in brilliant sunshine and
enjoyed by bowlers and spectators alike.
Mick Stevens was in blistering form, returning from a cup final
victory earlier in the day for Sedgley Ex., he went on last,
winning 21-3 to help give the Hilly House an important 62 shot
lead to take into the second leg.
The second leg was a noisy affair, with both clubs supporters
making themselves heard. The White Horse made a valiant effort
to reduce the deficit. The first 6 cards falling for 58 shots,
the lead was down to 4 with 4 cards to play.
With the White Horse now favourites to win the cup, the final 4
were magnificent Mark Brownhill unlucky to lose 19-21, Brian
Williams played the game of his life to win 21-20 and Kevan
Harvey securing a 21-17 win.
Mick Stevens needed just 15 shots to hand the title to the Hilly
House. ‘DJ’ not only got the 15 needed but ran out 21-10 to make
the win emphatic. |

Hilly
House win the Banks Cup
Despite reports in local newspapers stating that the
White Horse won the Banks Cup and the £250 prize money, the final had
not taken place and the report was the Semi-Final.
The final itself was played over two legs, the first
leg played at the Hilly House saw the home side take a 62 shot lead.
Micky Stevens was just one of the heroes going on last and winning
(21-3)
The second leg at the White Horse was played in an
amazing atmosphere, the Hilly House fielding an under strength side
found their overall lead pegged back after just 6 ends but the final
were supreme and the Hilly House claimed the title by an overall of 18
shots.
