BOWLERS LEAVE IT
LIKE A TIP
Hilly House bowlers faced the wrath of the Public House’s
landlord following a ladies cup competition match was allowed to
be played on the club’s green.
The landlord claimed that the bowlers left the surrounds of the
green looking more like “the local tip” than a sporting venue
and claimed to have received a barrage of foul-language and
abuse when he complained to the culprits.
“My staff do not want to serve customers let alone collect their
empty glasses and if this happens again I will seriously
consider building a 15 homes on the bowling green.”
The complaint made to the club’s secretary follows one earlier
in the year which involved two visiting senior citizens sides
playing at the club’s venue where one of the bowlers was accused
of using one of the bowling club’s seating areas as a urinal.”
The bowling section’s spokesman refused to officially comment on
the ex-landlord’s comments though was heard to say, “he’s a pain
in the arse !”

Rest In
Pieces

2006 saw the demise of
one of the club's famous landmarks. 'The shed', as it was
affectionately called was finally laid to rest at the end of the
season and replaced by a younger, better looking model.
Having served the club well for possibly one hundred years, the shed
had withstood many a Maslin Moment and had dealt some serious blows
of its’ own, with several visiting bowlers leaving it's doors with
blood streaming down their faces.
Sadly, gone are the thunderstorm nights that saw up to 30 people
crammed in with little chance to breathe and the days when members
actually looked at a notice board.
The cancellation of the 2006 Hilly House bonfire has given the shed
a short reprieve, though the chance of it returning to its’ former
glories are long gone. |

MOWER FUND
The
Hilly House’s mower is on it’s last legs according to the service
engineers who carried out essential work on it this year.
Funds will have to be raised in order to purchase a new mower, any
ideas for fund raising will be welcomed by the committee of the
club.
A figure of between £800 & £2000 has been quoted for the new mower
which current clubs funds cannot stretch to.
The club have been making an effort to find a cheaper second hand
option though at the time of writing these attempts have been
fruitless.
Without a decent mower, there is no bowling green. Without a bowling
green there is no club.
.
Discussions at the AGM are required. Please attend.
If sufficient funds are
raised there will be no shortage of mowing volunteers |
